Executive Summary
There is one Alachua County appointee position on this board, and one citizen has applied for appointment. Appointees serve four-year terms, and membership is governed by Florida Statute 411.01.
Background
Early Learning Coalition Boards are made up of at least 18 but not more than 35 members. The governor appoints two of those members and also appoints the board chair. Florida law requires that coalition boards be representative of a wide variety of community, educational and local governmental entities. One-third of the board must be private sector business members. Also represented on the board are faith-based and private child care providers. Vacancies in appointed positions must be advertised by the Coalition. Early Learning Coalition has been advertising the vacancy, and during the advertisement period one application was received. The applicant is Norma Berger.
Issues
The previous appointee completed her second term ending June 30, 2007. Per statute, there is a two-term limit for members’ service on this board, and the previous appointee is not eligible to re-apply.
