Documents Requiring Action NA Executive Summary The Board approved the creation of a civic education program to involve and inform community members and employees about the services provided by their County government. Today we will be recognizing and presenting a certificate of completion to the 24 members of Class #8 who attended at least five of the seven sessions. of this program. Background The Board approved the creation of a program to involve and inform community members and County employees about the services provided by their County government. The first class of the Alachua County Civic Education Series (ACCESS) was held in the spring of 2003. The program was expanded to seven sessions for the fall program in September, 2003. The seven sessions provide community members and employees a behind the scenes look at what their County government does for them. Participants enjoyed a visit to a number of County facilities and were provided classroom sessions by all County departments, the Clerk of the Court, the Judicial system, the Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, Supervisor of Elections, Sheriff and the Library District. Since 2003 165 individuals have "graduated" from ACCESS by attending the requisite number of sessions. 77% (24) of the 31 members of Class #8 attended at least five of the seven sessions and will a certificate today. Of those 24 "graduating" members, 37% (9) had perfect attendance. Issues There are no issues associated with awarding these certificates.
