Executive Summary This is a request to adopt an ordinance to amend the Comprehensive Plan's 2001 2020 Future Land Use Map to designate property incorrectly identified as Preservation because it is privately owned, to Rural Agriculture. Background The Board of County Commissioners directed staff in May 2005 to investigate inconsistent mapping and the designation of Preservation on privately owned properties. The Preservation designation describes a land use category that consists of publicly owned lands which are intended for use as natural reserves or managed conservation lands for the preservation of natural resources. A number of privately owned properties have an incorrect Future Land Use Map designation. The County is initiating Comprehensive Plan Map Amendments to re-identify the incorrect designation to Rural/Agriculture which is the common land use type based on surrounding land uses. This large scale plan amendment was approved for transmittal on January 8, 2008 in the cycle pending an additional hearing on another large scale, which was transmitted to DCA on February 19, 2008. DCA acknowledged receipt of these materials on March 6, 2008 and initiated a 60 day timeframe to issue its Objections, Recommendations and Comments (ORC) Report. DCA issued its ORC report on May 5, 2008 consistent with Rule 9J-5 (F.A.C.) and Chapter 163 (F.S.) and had no comments. Issues The County is initiating Comprehensive Plan Map amendments to correct a Future Land Use category of Preservation on privately owned land, which is inconsistent with the Comprehensive Plan definition of Preservation.
