DART - Drivers License Assistance

The Department of Court Services' Day Reporting program supports three individual components: Day Reporting, DART - Worthless Checks and DART - Drivers License Assistance.

The DART - Driver's License Assistance Program provides assistance to individuals with more severe issues related to obtaining a valid Driver�s License (as determined by the court). This component is divided into two separate parts. Participants may be required to perform either one or both of the following:

  1. Supervision (DLAS): This is a Prevention Caseload in which a staff member will work with the individual and report compliance to the court.
  2. Class (DLAC): This is a two (2) day class designed to assist individuals in obtaining a valid Florida Driver�s License or Hardship License and work on the core issues that contribute to the reason for suspension. Currently, the two (2) day classes occur once or twice a month during the evening hours (6pm � 10:00pm). Total participation time is eight (8) hours.

Population Served

Traffic offenders with misdemeanor and 3rd degree felony charges which include: failure to possess a Driver�s License (Suspended / Revoked / No Valid), habitual offender, or other driver related charges .

  1. Supervision (DLAS) Capacity: fifteen (15) active participants.
  2. Class (DLAC) Capacity: eighteen (18) participants per session.

Eligibility

Traffic offenders with misdemeanor and 3rd degree felony charges which include: failure to possess a Driver�s License (Suspended / Revoked / No Valid), habitual offender, or other driver related charges (Includes a final screening so that appropriateness for the program can be determined).

Services Provided

  1. Supervision (DLAS): Direct supervision and assistance for more serious charges (which are related to Driver�s / Licensure issues) in order to bring cases into compliance. This can include the monitoring of previously unpaid citations, planning of future goals to meet court requirements, and assistance obtaining a Driver�s License / Hardship License (if applicable).
  2. Class (DLAC): Classes cover a fifty (50) page booklet which has been produced and distributed by the Florida Safety Council. This booklet covers topics such as: how suspensions / revocations can occur, how to obtain a Driver�s License / Hardship License, remedies for various license issues, setting long term goals, stress management, and assistance in locating alternative forms of transportation. The last portion of class will be spent reviewing each individual�s traffic history and charges. A plan of action to prevent new charges / correct current charges will then be created by the participant utilizing all skills obtained in the class.

Fees

  1. Supervision (DLAS): There are no fees for the WC component. However, participants will be responsible for State Attorney fees, restitution, court costs / fines, and any additional costs that have arisen as a result of their charges. Some participants may be required to attend the Driver�s License Assistance Class (see costs below).
  2. Class (DLAC): The cost of this is class is fifty-five dollars ($55.00). The fifty (50) page workbook is included in this cost and may be kept by the participant for future reference. Participants of this class will not be monitored for any additional payments. Although not required as a component of the class, restitution, citation fees / fines, child-support, and any additional charges, may need to be paid-off in order to come into compliance with the court or receive their Driver�s / Hardship License.
