FGP - Support

Annually, in May, the Alachua County Foster Grandparent Program Advisory Council holds its Rock-a-thon, in which the Foster Grandparent volunteers and local celebrities rock on the Cracker Barrel's front porch to raise funds to support the program. Last year, the Rock-a-thon raised over $8,000. The funds support events such as a yearly picnic, sending volunteers to the annual Foster Grandparent Conference, and other things that the volunteers may not receive without community support. The volunteers collect pledges the month before the event, competing for prizes, and local businesses serve as sponsors. To support the event or for more information about supporting the program, please call the program coordinator, Norma Berger, at 352-264-6757.

For information on the corporate levels available, view our Corporate Sponsorship Brochure.

The Foster Grandparent Program has an Advisory Council which is incorporated with the State of Florida.  The council is made up of volunteers who attend one meeting per month to provide support to the program and staff.  Some of the main functions of the Council include providing advice and guidance, conducting program evaluations, increasing community awareness, and holding an annual fund raising event.

For more information about the FGP Advisory Council or to learn how to become a member, please contact the FGP Coordinator, Norma Berger at 264-6757.
