Background

In 1984, the Board of County Commissioners of Alachua County established the Environmental Advisory Committee, now known as the Environmental Protection Advisory Committee (EPAC), to advise and assist the Board on environmental issues. Since that time EPAC has been an effective vehicle for citizen input and review of environmental programs within Alachua County . EPAC membership is composed of 15 citizens appointed by the Board who have an interest in developing effective environmental programs and promoting greater community involvement and awareness of local government environmental programs. Each year EPAC develops a Work plan which involves gathering information, making recommendations to the Board and endorsing selected environmental policy initiatives.
