Current active cleanup sites in Alachua County: 95

Alachua County Environmental Protection Department (ACEPD) is under contract with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Bureau of Petroleum Storage Systems to manage the assessment and clean-up of petroleum contaminated facilities in Alachua County. The majority of these contaminated sites are active and closed gas station locations. Clean-up activities are conducted by private engineering firms designated by the property owners or by FDEP and are conducted in accordance with the requirements and provisions of Sections 376 and 403, F.S., and Chapters 62-770 and 62-777, F.A.C.

The petroleum cleanup program continues to be busy statewide, as more contaminated facilities are identified.  The number of facilities being cleaned up has been increasing steadily with time and the number is expected to continue to increase.
