Software Engineering
It is the Applications Division's responsibility to handle the engineering and development of software products for Alachua County. This can be anything from simple applications for temporary situations all the way up to innovative & technologically advanced software systems to handle county functions and business processes. The Applications staff members are highly trained experts in their fields and come from a wide verity of disciplines and backgrounds.
Web Services & eGov
eGov is very important in this century and we want to make Alachua County one of the leading innovators with it. This is an on-going challenge since technology changes rapidly, but we're equipped and ready to tackle the job. Look to ITS Applications for some very new eGov services happening all the time. Coming soon! My Alachua County Your Community Connection.
AS400 & Legacy Support
AS400's running applications written in COBOL and other legacy software systems are still in use by county departments and constitutional offices. It is our task to monitor & maintain it and in some cases find new solutions to replace it. We also run and maintain the County's financial systems.
Research & Development
The time honored task of R&D goes back as far as man kind does. From the first people to make tools to hunt with all the way up to present day, research and development has been a valuable and important method of advancing our society. It is no different with us here. The Applications staff members are constantly researching new technologies to save the county money, time and effort in their day-to-day routines.
In some cases we have even created new and innovative ways of handling complex problems with some ground breaking technology. We take the results of our research and apply it to our systems thinking approach to appling it to the county. We also frequently share this information with other local governments throughout the country to help not only our community, but other's as well. This area ties very closely with the software engineering and eGov. We try to find ways to seamlessly integrate our products to make them more efficient and cost effective. From complex algorithms used in engineering software solutions to innovative hardware integration with county eGov services, we try to come up with ways of serving our community to make it the best it can be.
