PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

 

Richard Hedrick, Public Works Director

The Alachua County Department of Public Works provides stewardship of assigned county-owned infrastructure and equipment, and works with the community to support growth that balances environmental, social and community development.

The Alachua County Public Works Department has six functional divisions: Administration, Animal Services, Fleet Management, Engineering & Operations, Transportation & Development, and Waste Management.

ADMINISTRATION DIVISION

Kenneth Fair, Administrative Support Manager

The Administration Division provides centralized administrative support for departmental procurement, personnel, fiscal and budgetary operations; provides information systems / telecommunications support; administers and operates the Santa Fe Hills Water System; and manages the warehousing and supply distribution.

ANIMAL SERVICES DIVISION

David Flagler, Animal Services Director

In addition to handling lost and abandoned animals, Alachua County Animal Services offers a wide range of services. You can view adoptable animals online and keep an eye out for that perfect pet from the comfort of your own home.

ENGINEERING & OPERATIONS

David Cerlanek, Assistant Public Works Director

The Engineering and Operations Division is made up of the Offices of Engineering and Road & Bridge as well as Adopt-a-County-Road and Adopt-a-County Park Programs, Pavement Management Program and Work Management Program.

FLEET MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Ray Griffin, Fleet Manager

The Fleet Management Division ensures that the Alachua County fleet is obtained, maintained and utilized in a manner that provides for a safe and cost-efficient operation through environmentally responsible management. Fleet Management provides the following core services to its customers: fleet asset management, procurement of vehicles and equipment, storage and dispensing of fleet fuels, repair and maintenance services, and vehicle replacement fund management.

PARKS & RECREATION DIVISION

Rob Avery, Parks/Open Spaces Superintendent

The Alachua County Parks Office is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the County park system. Additional responsibilities include the administration of state and federal grants, maintenance agreements, management and securities agreements, construction contracts, and programmed recreation contracts. The park system consists of 25 parks with a total of 1306 acres and an additional 11 acres of Gainseville Regional Utilities' (GRU) property known as Chapman's Pond.

TRANSPORTATION & DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Michael Fay, Development Program Manager

The Development Review administers and prepares engineering, surveying and construction documents; inspects the construction of driveways, utility work, subdivisions, commercial sites, and transportation projects; acquires all County real property; and provides the review and recommendation related to all plat vacations and road closures.

WASTE MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Karen Deeter, Assistant Public Works Director

The Waste Management Division provides clean, efficient, economical and environmentally sound management of solid waste resources in Alachua County.
